Florida Invitational Championship Race

MSM News
The Florida Championship race was a huge success. We had alot of talent show up and strut their stuff. The Discovery Channel was also there with their own member riding in the race. The show is tentatively being called the Adventure Man, or Wreckreation Nation. The show will premiere on the Discovery Channel January 7th, 2009. The episode airtime is yet to be determined. More information will be posted mid December atwww.discoverychannel.com.
Now for the results:
The Blata 2.5/cag class was extremely competitive. Tod Mcgee was definately the one to beat in this class with winning most of the qualifiers and had pole posistion in the main. However he had wrecked in the first lap, taking Darrell Mounts and Oscar Trinidad out with him. Derek Joy chose a line out of the carnage and capitalized on this while pulling out front, then away from the rest of the pack to take 1st place. One of our new riders Casey Keese had a bad accident in the 3rd qualifier which resulted in a broken collar bone. . He took it well and was taken to the hospital for treatment. Thanks to the Keese family for making it down and racing with us. We hope Casey gets well and you can make it to another one in the future.
Cag/2.5 Class: Podium 1st - Derek Joy - Florida Champion - fastest lap - 1:04.943 2st - Alan Smith - fastest lap - 1:06.184 3rd - Ricky Podlas Jr - fastest lap - 1:06.969
Runners up 4th - Diggie Mounts - fastest lap - 1:06.636 5th - Rick Podlas Sr - fastest lap - 1:12.794 6th - Oscar Trinidad - fastest lap - 1:09.440 7th - Mike Coats - fastest lap - 1:10.060 8th - Darrel Mounts - fastest lap - 1:08.080 9th - Tod McGee - fastest lap - 1:26.167 10th - Jeremy Mounts - DNF 11th - Al Pritz - DNF 12th - Cameron Brenneman - DNF ( only JR racer out there)
The Proddy classracewas one for the books. No surprise with Tod McGee up front, however he was certainly getting a run for his money by Diggie Mounts. Tod tried relentlessly to shake Diggie, however Diggie was on his game and riding like an animal. I could see the determination through his helmet. He WANTED First. This was going to come down to the final lap however on the last turn Diggie's tires gave way yielding a highside and turning him in a backwards roll with his helmet falling off. He was up, with his helmet back on in a flash to cross the finish line still in 2nd place. Derek Joy followed up the rear of 1st and 2nd with his 3rd place finish. Great job to all of you.
Restricted Production Class: Podium 1st - Tod McGee - Florida Champion - fastest lap - 58.443 2nd - Diggie Mounts - fastest lap - 58.603 3rd - Derek Joy - fastest lap - 58.801
Runners up 4th - Ricky Podlas Jr - fastest lap - 1:00.450 5th - Alan Smith - fastest lap - 59.102 6th - Mike Coats - fastest lap - 1:02.644 7th - Rick Podlas Sr - fastest lap - 1:04.406 8th - Jeremy Mounts - DNF - fastest lap - 1:03.830 9th - Randy Orza - DNF
This was again, a very exciting race. Randy Orza was on his A-game and broke away from the pack early in the race. The battle this race was between the rookie Steve Smithers from Kansas City and Darrell Mounts from LeHigh Acres, FL. Steve Smithers road extremely well for just coming into the sport midway of the 2008 year. Darrell Mounts was on Steve trying to find a way to get by but Steve Smithers wasn't having any of it. He held on for the 2nd place finish with Darrell right behind him in 3rd
Super Production Class: Podium 1st - Randy Orza - Florida Champion - fastest lap - 56.485 2nd - Steve Smithers - fastest lap - 58.144 3rd - Darrell Mounts - fastest lap - 58.411
Runners up 4th - Derek Joy - fastest lap - 59.158 5th - Steve Armentrout - fastest lap - 59.770 6th - Al Pritz - fastest lap - 59.233 7th - Mike Coats - fastest lap - 59.949 8th - Rick Podlas Jr - fastest lap - 1:01.812 9th - Rick Podlas Sr - fastest lap 1:05.447 10th - Dave Mordal (Discovery Channel Rider) - fastest lap - 1:09.026 11th - Alan Smith - DNF 12th - Oscar Trinidad - DNF - fastest lap - 1:04.914 13th - Tod McGee - DNF 14th - Britt Wright - DNF
Open class is always fun to watch. Jimmy D. and Randy Orza had a great battle with lots of lead changes. Jimmy D. is so fun to watch , he is extremely talented. Randy was racing like no other. He was punching it into those corners just as fast, and wouldnt give up his determination to fighting Jimmy for the lead. As the race wore on I could see lots of dust coming from Jimmy'sbike. As he passed I could smell the reason, his clutch was giving out. He held on for a couple laps doing all he could to keep his lead on Randy, however the clutch was baked at this point and it was only a matter of time before the bike was out of the race. Tod Mcgee took advantage of Jimmy's downed bike and moved into 2nd place while Darrel mounts raced a really strong race pulling a 3rd at the checkered.
Open Class: Podium 1st - Randy Orza - Florida Champion - fastest lap - 54.903 2nd - Tod Mcgee - fastes lap - 57.034 3rd - Darrell Mounts - fastest lap - 59.491
